Dart Preparation Before Going to a Competition (Pregame Activities)
Sometimes dart can be a very competitive game. In the higher tiers of competitive dart matches, players can hit almost ridiculous shots that we thought its a 1 in a million shot. Before those players went that far, players went through tons of preparations and trust me, ALL OF THEM must have their own routine of preparations.
Preparations are the most underestimated element that most average player neglect. Its either they don’t know how important preparation is or they just don’t know how to prepare. If you are one of those people, this article is great for you.
Preparations might differ from each individual but it is important to at least have one in your textbook.
Here are some common preparation tips that might help you win your next tournament.
Getting the right amount of sleep is one of the most underestimated things in any competition. Sometimes it is just that all the excitement is rushing constantly keeping players to stay awake. As time goes by, your alarm rings and you realize you only get 2 hours of sleep. Sounds familiar? Yeah. This kind of scenario is very common for first-timers and if you experienced this before, try to avoid these mistakes. Waking up early and getting your breakfast on-time might be very crucial as you will spend the whole day in the event and you need that energy well-prepared.
Going early to the venue/dart hall
Getting to the dart hall early is somehow underestimated things to do. Some may think that “Oh, I hit all my shot last night. I’m sure I got this.”. Well, it is a good thing for you to hit well prior to the day of the event. But competition isn’t just the usual practice night you have with your buddy. Entering the hall might give you the nerve-wracking atmosphere that will drop all your shots. By getting early to the venue and ready with your warm-up shots, will give you the right release you need, the right mindset and focus, and most importantly to get you to familiarize yourself with the atmosphere of the venue. In addition, getting a buddy of yours to play a match before the game can add a bit of pressure, which is a good thing to have.
Getting a playlist ready for your competition
This one right here is optional. For some people (me included), Music can help you enter the ‘zone’, unleash your beast, estab- you know what I’m trying to say here. But some people just play random music they have on the top chart just to keep their ears occupied. It may be good enough but I personally recommend you to get yourself a playlist with music that you know will get you pumped up throughout the event.
Washing/cleaning your darts
When is the last time you clean your barrels? Cleaning your dart is a good habit to have to keep the grease away from your barrel. It maintains the grip you need to avoid awkward slips during your release. Clean your darts at least 2 days prior to the event.
Focus on yourself
Lastly, mind your own business. Get all your focus on yourself. Don’t worry about how your opponents hitting their shots during warm-ups. Mental preparation plays a huge part in the game. We believe that in the higher tier, everyone can PERFORM. Its whether they can EXECUTE the shot when they need to or not. So always keep that positivity in mind.
